Laurie Block is a Registered Dietitian, and Certified Diabetes Educator with 25 plus years of experience working with families and individuals to help navigate the every changing world of nutrition. Her philosophy uses scientific and evidenced based nutrition to improve health, promote wellness and develop life long eating habits for individual lifestyles.
Laurie considers not only what you are eating but is aware of the many behavioral and psychological components that are involved in healthy food choices. Laurie works with your medical team and is persistent in her approach to assure you reach your health care goals. Recommendations and meal plans are creative, culturally sensitive ; and always personalized toward various lifestyles, and belief systems about health, food and diet.
Laurie is using modern technology to communicate closely with her clients She has found telemedicine an extremely effective way to keep connected with patients to better understand not only what people are eating but preparation and portions consumed. The connection after 5 pm allows Laurie to be able to communicate strategies for healthy eating not only during the day but after hours when individuals and families are presented with social situations, business meetings, family gatherings that often require some education .
She received her Bachelor of Science in Dietetics- Nutrition from Hunter College in New York City and received her Masters Degree in Clinical Nutrition and Education from the Steninhart School at New York University. During this time she completed an internship at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In addition, to her clinical nutrition education Laurie completed a Masters Cooking Program at the New School for Social Research and has additional training at the Nautural Gourmet Cooking School in New York.
Laurie has been a strong advocate for diabetes education and has experience with both insulin and non insulin dependent diabetes, weight management, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, gluten free diets, and many other health related diseases. She enjoys working with the child, teen and adult population.
